A little gift to me.

Newly Wustoffing

Hello, new knife.

Hello, diced onions and chopped pork shoulder and minced garlic. Hello, finely sliced carrots and chunks of winter squash.

Good morning, oranges. Good morning, banana bread. Good morning, peppers and onions in egg-white omelets.

Hello, soup and chili on cold days. Hello, gazpacho and sangria on warm ones.

Hey there, new recipes. Hello, consultations to "How to Cook Everything" and "America's Test Kitchen" and torn-out pages from Food & Wine.

Hi, small nicks to index fingers. Bits of blood and uncomfortable band-aids. Hello again, pitiful calls to Mom.

Hello, white cheddar and aged Gouda. Oh, hello, Manchego!

Goodbye, excuses for buying lame frozen dinners. See ya, visits to the pizza-slice place across the way.

Hello, friends around my table and friends in my kitchen. Hello, wine poured, jokes made, and stories told.

Hey, new knife.

I think you might like it here.

hee hee, this made me chuckle (i might have laughed out loud, but i'm at work, so any noises that indicate i might be having fun are seriously curtailed). and it also filled me with the immense need to know where that tea towel was born...

Thanks for stopping by Kristen! That tea towel was a souvenir from a trip to New Zealand. I got it in Wellington (so cute--you must go there if you haven't already) at one of my favorite UK-based stores called Habitat. Check them out at www.habitat.co.uk.

This is freaking hysterical. You need someone to illustrate this in the style of Goodnight Moon. ;)

So funny--I started thinking of Goodnight Moon after I wrote it. Hmmmm...

I LOVE new knives. :) They are so much fun to cut up veggies with and create new concoctions. My boyfriend keeps our knives in good shape by sharpening them all the time. The sound used to creep me out because it reminded me of horror movies, but now I almost find it exciting!
